Join us to discuss the concept of urbicide and to further specify its relevance in the context of Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine, with particular attention to the situation and experiences of Ukrainian cities. Urbicide is a specific type of human-steered catastrophe that leads to climate and spatial change by destroying heterogeneous urbanity for its own sake, resulting in population displacement. This webinar will also explore the links between the destruction of cities, environmental change, and migration, bringing together academic perspectives with policy and reconstruction practices.
The webinar is part of the CMR Webinar series “Migration and Cities”, organised since 2022 by the Laboratory of Urban and Regional Migration Policies.
Among our invited speakers, we will host Kostyantyn Mezentsev, Andrew Geddes,
Justyna Szałańska and
Paweł Kaczmarczyk.
This event is co-organised with the Laboratory of Urban and Regional Migration Policies, the Migration Policies Research Unit and the Humanitarian Observatory for Central and Eastern Europe (HOCEE) at the Centre of Migration Research of the University of Warsaw (CMR UW)
